FYI - from the CPW page linked below.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Northwest Region Sportsmen's Roundtable invites hunters and anglers, or anyone who has thoughts about hunting and fishing related issues, to attend the next regional caucus, beginning at 6 p.m., Feb. 25, Mesa County Central Services, 200 South Spruce Street in Grand Junction.

See ya there.

About a dozen folks were there. A gentleman from Rifle was elected to served on the roundtable.

Topics of interest:

CWD - Lengthy discussion of the new draft CWD plan and how it interacts with herd management plans and 5-year season structures. Discussion included testing frequency, CWD hot spots, prevalence triggers in the CWD plan, etc. Some sidebar conversations about the 5-year season structure crept in there as well. Archery vs ML, splitting up the rifle seasons to give the elk a break, reducing late season tags to give the elk a break.

2019 Regs - PP fees and other changes to the regs for 2019.

Bobcats - Citizen petition to ban bobcat trapping will be discussed during the May CPW Commission meeting in GJ. Petition claims bobcat trapping adversely affects Canada Lynx recovery. Also listed in the petition are other "problems" with bobcat hunting and trapping, although this petition currently seeks to stop only trapping.

Wolves - Denver-based Rocky Mountain Wolf Project is looking place wolf reintroduction on the 2020 statewide ballot. Areas possibly being considered by the Denver-based group for wolf reintroduction include the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre Plateau, and San Juan mountains. https://www.rockymountainwolfproject.org/ I have not read their website in detail, but the highlights of website plan include: "17 Million Acres Of Available Public Lands in Western Colorado", "758,000 Wild Deer and Elk Population", "40 Year Plan Concluding to Restore Wolves in the West", "0 Campers Injured By Wolves While Hiking in National Parks".

I think that about covers the major topics of conversation.

Thanks. I’m curios how a ballot initiative could result in wolves being reintroduced. Colorado can’t buy wolves or force the FWS to reintroduce them. At least I don’t think they can?

I dont know either. It came up at the very end of the meeting and there were no follow up questions. I'll have to do some reading.

Thanks again for the synopsis. I read through the bobcat petition and then google stocked the woman who submitted it. No surprising, but she is affiliated with PETA.
