Got a call from one of my daughters regarding grandson number two. In PE at school today and ended up taking a tennis racket to the bean.
Another trip for her to ER with this guy. Anyway, the doc elected to glue him up instead of stitches. This kind of stuff new or what? Pros, cons?

Had it been me knowing him like I do, I would have used staples on his noggin.

Super Glue was actually invented as a replacement for sutures. Glueing a cut is not a new fangled practice. I actually carried super glue in my aid bag in Iraq just for that reason for smaller cuts.

My son pulled a basketball goal down on his face and put a gash between his eyes. After setting in the ER for a few hours, they used the glue instead of stitches to help reduce the chances of a scar. Didn't work. Been around a while.

Thanks John! I was just wondering because skin on a persons head seems pretty tight, where most other areas of the body you have a little give.

I sliced my palm open with a boxcutter once and was able to superglue it back together. Like John I carry some in my first aid kit--I consider it the duct tape and bailing wire of first aid.

I glued a bad cut on my hand together with some super glue. It left a scar but sure held the skin together while I worked. I too carry some super glue in the hunting pack but I also added some quik clot powder for the life threatening big bleeder wounds. That and benadryl about make up my first aid kit.

This is amazing:eek: I just had a student today run into the custodian's office and split his face... just above his lip. I had this guy put a cold wet compress on it, called mom, and had the glue ready.

So, I go back to him to clean it, put on a butterfly and... I'm not sure if it was the blood, or blow to the face, or the fact that I told him "I might put glue on it when she picks you up"- but that kid started to sweat, turned ghost white, and fainted right there:p

After he came to, I asked him what happened and he said, "I got sick." Anyway, mom came, we glued it, and he's about 99.5% last time I called. We're just watching him for concussion.

Super glue is good for that, and handy if you are a hunting dog owner too! Good to have on hand.

The first I saw of it, I was working on a bear study in about 92'... the vet would slice this bears bellys open, plop a transmitter right in there, then the vet would sew up the internal layer and glue the skin layer... I thought it was crazy... I mean, within 1/2 hour this bear is wandering around through the brush!!

it worked though.
