My son has the youth cow elk once-in-a-lifetime tag coming up this weekend. We are super pumped. Able to do one scouting trip earlier this fall, in September. This will be our first elk hunt. Looking to use my rooftop tent to camp on the eastern side from the McCrystal campground, but don't know if the elk will be up higher still on the western side by Cimarron campground. We might also shoot out and spike camp a night or two a few miles in, we don't have horses, just backpacks and our boots. Anyone have any advice or tips they wouldn't mind sharing?
