NM unit 27 Youth deer

My daughter drew the New Mexico unit 27 youth hunt that starts the weekend before Thanksgiving, 23 November and runs through December 1st. I put in for the unit thinking we would have a good opportunity to either kill a Coues or a Mule deer. Does anyone have some insight they could impart that might help get her a buck?

There are good numbers of deer in the area but also plenty of private land. Where were you planning on hunting?

I really don't have a plan yet, but I'm seeing a lot of public lands on both sides of the freeway and further south in the unit in the Coronado.
