First time hunting in NM since I moved here. I drew a deer tag in Unit 17 and would like any help anyone can give me on pre-season scouting. Where would you recommend concentrating my efforts? Thanks for the help.

Look on your maps for mill place,South of magdalina,nice bucks in there! Its a big unit lots of national forest,remember the blm and state land,not many people use it and it there are alot of Hunters thats were I would work! good huntin,

Thanks for the info. Took a quick look and it looks promising geographically. I may go down and take a look this weekend to check out road access to the area.

Its a nice area! Good luck on you hunt,I got a deer hunt sept.1-24 in 15 and then again Jan.1-15 with bow.. But ive got my elk hunt in 52 during sept. Lol so I think ill be hunting deer in Jan.
