Has any member on this forum hunted Nilgai in Texas? Who did you hunt with, prices and what time of year? Have head this meat is very good table fare. What is your opinion?
Have been giving some serious thought to hunt Nilgai for some time. Any and all information would be appreciated. MTG

I know a guy who's hunted them 3 times everytime at the king ranch. He invited me a couple years ago and it was a 5k archery hunt can't remember the exact amount of day's. I passed because if I'm paying for it I'd prefer rifle and he goes in the summer (I believe because he sits water). Hunting in the summer in Texas sounds horrible.

The meat is excellent, there's a reason its on the menu of every fancy restaurant in TX.

There's a very active "Texas Nilgai Hunters" facebook page. Make a similar post on there and you will get 100 replies including a dozen from the various outfitters. Going rate for most of those guys for the hunt, not including lodging, are $3500 bull/$1500 cow.

Most of them hunt something like Dec-Apr

You heard right. The meat is excellent. There are several areas on public land here in Texas where you can chase nilgai. They are all by drawing though, and the deadlines for entry are over for this year. In fact, they are drawing today for some of those hunts and I've got my name in the hat for them.
If you are interested in putting in for them next year, shoot me a PM and I'll help you out with the process.

Booking a trip for 2nd week in November 26 down near Harlingen, TX with an outfitter by the name of Tony Medina. Hickspic outfitters is the name. Have references that speak highly of his offerings. More to come. MTG
