Well, there is an outside chance in a year or so that my family and I may be moving to New Zealand. We won't know for a while if we win the contract or if we will be chosen to go. If we do go, my wife is saying for only 2 years, but the contract would be for 5. Im hoping she falls in love and we stay a bit longer than . That being said, I have some questions for the Kiwi's on this site. First, how hard is it to get a rifle into the country on a work visa? Second, how hard is it to get reloading supplies? Third, what do we need to look out for with housing, schools, etc? How about moving my pets? Lastly, would you like a hunting partner? :D

I haven't imported a rifle to NZ but I'm sure it can be done. See this link for some info - http://www.police.govt.nz/advice/firearms/visitors-firearms-licence-and-import-permits

Reloading supplies can be purchased in NZ or if you want you an import from the US. Here is an example of a store that sells reloading gear http://www.reloaders.co.nz/shop/Reloading.html

Housing & Schools - these really depend on where you intent to live. If Auckland then you have a choice of public (free) and private (expensive) schools. If you live in a small town then you'll have just one public school. Housing is expensive compared to MT, especially Auckland!

You can bring pets but the cost will be high and they'll probably need to be isolated for a while - More infor here - http://www.customs.govt.nz/incommercial/preparingtoimport/animals/Pages/default.aspx

I'd be happy to take you for a hunt. I'm based in Wellington.

Thanks for the info. I will feel lucky if my company gets the contract and I am picked to go! I have a feeling it will be a very sought after spot in this company! We will more than likely be based out of Wellington also! Hardest parts are going to be not getting my hopes to high and keeping the wife from bailing out on me! Hahaha!

Keep in touch and if you have any questions about Wellington, just ask. Its a great little city, but very windy!
