Hello All!

I am new to the forum. I have been an avid whitetail hunter for most of my adult life. I was fortunate to draw a pronghorn tag in New Mexico. If there’s any advice you can give me I will take it. I plan to do more western hunting in the future and am excited to start with pronghorn.

Take care!

Is it archery or rifle for the speedgoat? I’ve never hunted NM so I have no idea how their tag system works…
You’ll do well to find antelope I’m sure, just be mindful of wind, subtle terrain changes and eyeballs. Good luck and welcome to HT

Biggest difference: find pronghorn before you start hunting them. You’ll have a blast. Remember that if you’re shooting at longer ranges, wind will really move your bullet.

One thing I learned on our first pronghorn hunt is to shift your focus from scent (whitetails) to eyesight. They can see you way better and from way farther away than you think. Just don't get hung up on scent control like you do with whitetails. Take good glass and look over as many as possible. At first they will all look the same, but after you see a lot of them you will learn what is a good one for your particular area. Best wishes, and please let us know how it goes.

Antelope are territorial. Their home range isn't very large. If you find them once, chances are you'll find them again nearby. Look for water. Antelope can see for miles, so watch your movement when you're stalking or even just watching. Depending on how close your tag is to the rut, find the does and the bucks will be close once they start breaking up their bachelor herds. Oh, welcome to HT. Share some of your hunting stories.
