New Montana Bear Regs

The changes to the new bear regulations are interesting now that I’m looking at the regs. Region 6 now has a quota of 4 bears, no bear hunting was allowed there before. Region 1 no longer requires checking bears in person.

The big change is hound hunting, obviously, and I’m pretty happy with how they introduced it. No hound hunting is permitted in the listed districts with occupied grizzly habitat. Nonresident hound licenses are the same as for lion hunting, with a cap on the number of licenses available per district.

Green grass and sunny afternoons in the mountains can’t get here soon enough.

The R6 quota has been in the works for a few years and is a result of an increasing population in the Little Rockies. Not really sure how many bears there are though.
