I am looking to chat with any folks that have hunted this unit not in the Burro Mountains, for Coues deer. I have heard they are in the unit and i have done lots of E Scouting. just looking to chat and maybe gain some insight to the unit.

Have you hunted Coues? I grew up hunting Eastern Whitetails which are larger and do not blend into the surroundings as well.

My first couple of Coues hunts were frustrating as rarely glassed up a bedded deer. They. Just. Vanish. A small bush will be enough cover. I have watched a buck bed then not be able to find it. Not an ear. Not a bit of antler.

Some Coues habitat is relatively flat and brushy which is challenging to hunt. I prefer steep ridges where can get some elevation to glass below.

I have heard 23 has lots of relatively flat areas.

I have not hunted them at all but i really seem to be hooked on trying to!! I hear from a guy late last year that 23 had a good population of them and we chatted for a few messages and then he just quit responding.

Hunt coues sitting down. Find habitat, find deer, shoot deer. Don't overthink it, the mystique behind coues deer is overrated. I've never gone on a coues deer hunt and not found them, and I'm a pretty bad hunter who only drew Oct tags.
