New custom 25-06

@nhenry,
That's a sharp looking build!!
Even for it being a lefty, I can appreciate it's looks.
And a 26" barrel with finished weight of just under 9lbs.
If you compare the velocity between that and a 22", you should be getting closer to 257WBY speeds.

I cant decide. I really want a .257 Weatherby but then I read a lot about the 25-06.

I bought a 6.5-300 because I have a .30 Cal conflicted sole. Have a safe full of .30's. Clearly the 6.5-300 doesn't fill the bill but I tried. It is awesome though and shoots laser beams. Kinda like the .257 WM.............see what I mean.
Do it, you'll love it!
For some reason people look at the 25-06 for deer and antelope cartridges.
But they overlook it for elk and bear cartridges.
People have been taking elk with the 257 Roberts for quite a while.

And for some reason, the 25 caliber seems to kill above what it's diameter and bullet weight would suggest.

According to Steve at Hammer I should be able to get the thing up towards 3400 with the 107 HBC. I’ll settle for 3300 and accuracy though. With that speed it’ll only drop 17” at 400 yards, which is flatter than my warp speed 280 AI load did (120gr TTSX at 3418)

Makes me almost curious as to what my Mark V Ultra Light Weight in 257WBY would push a 75gr Sierra HP Varmint at.

Almost.....

😉

Dig everything about this. Great build!

I'm planning on messing with the 95gr. HHTs out of a 25-6.5 PRC that I'm having built. They get 3200+fps out of a 21inch .257 Ackley, so I should be somewhere around Mach Jesus with the 25-6.5.
Steve at Hammer is necking down a .300 Norma mag with 40 degree shoulders to .25 caliber. Yikes. mtmuley

Man, thank you, that’s high praise from you. That 257 AI you have has me envious of all righties.

A friend of mine has that 95 HHT going 3600+ so I think you’ll get some good velo for sure

Heh, it’s worth bringing up this one from the past as a lesson in practical velocity limitations: The Legendary Eargesplittenloudenboomer.

Slower powders available today. Anything can be maximized if the barrel’s long enough and the powder’s slow enough
