Starting the thread sitting in the airport waiting on our plane. Packed up with soft sided coolers in our larger suitcases and my son’s rifle in the hard sided case.

Checking in the rifle went smoothly, so far the flights are showing to be on time (should knock on wood there since it is a Friday afternoon usually everything should be running late).

Fun fact, Reno, Nevada is further west than Los Angeles, California and would have been a 21+ hour drive for us so we decided to take the easy way out and hire a guide on this one.

This will be the first time ever using a guide for me in North America, but to save the hassle of driving out there and back or trying to sort out a useable rental vehicle that would be capable of driving off road we decided it was going to be worth it. Plus we really didn’t have time to scout and this is supposed to be a pretty good unit so guided it is for this hunt.

This will be my son’s first time pronghorn hunting. He went with me for one day in Wyoming when he was like 5 years old but I don’t think that really counts. He’s holding the tag and I’m along for support. Pretty fun feeling.

Of course in the 5 minutes it took me to thumb this out on my phone the flight is delayed 15 minutes but we should still make our connection in Las Vegas. Hopefully that’s the last delay.

We’ve talked with our guide a couple times on the phone and a few texts back and forth. No monster buck located but some decent ones. We are going to meet up this evening once we get there and make a plan for tomorrow.

Subscribed to the thread, good luck!

Heck yeah, good luck. What unit ? Just curious because I’ve been out and about a lot seeing some pretty decent ones this year

Rest of the flight went pretty uneventful, bags all arrived, rent car went smoothly and it was an easy drive to Lovelock and got checked into the swanky hotel.

Met with the guide and he was pretty excited about 2 of the bucks he had seen that evening. Said one was the best buck he had seen all year and the other was a really neat buck with some big curve to his horns above the prong.

He had good digiscope video of the one with the big curve and it really looked like a great buck to me and then he said that wasn’t the big one and showed me the bigger one. I couldn’t really tell from the video but you could tell he was pretty excited about it.

Alarm is set for 3:30 and he will be here to pick us up at 4:00. I didn’t think you needed to get up early for antelope hunting, but he wants to get us out there early to make sure we are on the big buck bright and early and it is a bit of a drive to get out there. I think we can manage an early wake up call to have a crack at a buck that has the guide this excited.

Bed time for us!

On the first plane about to take off. Running about 30 minutes late but showing they are going make up some time on the way over to Vegas.

Connecting flight is showing delayed 20 minutes so looking like we should be fine.

Looks like we might be a little late getting to Reno but not bad at all.
Good luck!

I’m not great with pictures and the guide took a bunch so will add some more in a bit. Everything went pretty much perfectly.

Nice pronghorn, always hard to judge and still not sure how big he is but he looks pretty and my son was very happy for him for his first ever antelope.

Not something where he set the bar so high he can never hope to shoot a bigger one.

As he laid:

Headed back to the hotel. Going to work on getting the meat cleaned up and frozen. Got flights moved up and should be able to get home in time for the bighorn sheep opener in Colorado.

Congrats to your son. That’s a great buck. It’s nice when things come together, huh?
