Need some Archery Info

Jon Boy, thanks! Hunting with trad gear is a bit challenging at times but the rewards are sweet especially on OTC elk hunts!

I thought of this after I had already posted originally but Draftstud may also be interested in a bull taken with a 40# compound years ago by my Son at 13, heck the equipment then was slow by comparison with todays standards in new bows. His bow was a 26" draw Hoyt Raider at 40# his arrow was 415grn tipped with a 3-bladed old bear head. This bull was taken 20 years ago, the arrow penetrated to the fletchings & was only a 15yd shot, I was priveledged to call this bull right into both our laps as I was only 3' behind my son Paul Jr. -- He's the one on the right in the above photo!

As you can see, it's photos & such as these that can give me the confidence to share info about a 50# draw wt. & it's efficiency! Good Luck!!

This is probably not a bad option and my wife's uncle has considered it as well. Montana allows I believe, but there's a process to it. Crossbows now are crazy (although I don't use one) and some have incorporated their draw mechanisms in air canisters (no kidding push button draw) or other easy to use means. I would take a look at this if you can get the Doc to sign off on how bad your shoulder is. The draw back is wieght. They way a lot, but hunting with horses, mules or whatever should help with that.

I cannot endorse this method.

If you are looking for a modern bow that is very easy to draw as well as to hold for minutes (probably could hold mine for an hour before getting tired!), check out the Elite Archery line of bows, I just picked up a 2011 Hunter and the draw feels about 10 pounds lighter than it actually is! Elite makes a great product, its not the fastest shootin bow on the market but its easy to draw and you can hold it forever! Mine is set at 65#, I can only imagine what it feels like to pull one of these bows back set at 50-55lbs. Good luck!

You can use a crossbow with a doctor note and form from the DOW in Colorado for archery. You can use a crossbow during rifle season, though with no notes and forms.
