I have done it. We used a paste on small calves but sometimes had to cut one. Good dose of blood stopper afterward. Was around a lot of branding. And getting oysters the old fashioned way, with a knife. mtmuleyNanding never bothered me if youve watch the vet "crimp" one though. Ooofff the crunching sound will about drop you to your knees.
Branding would be a foreign experience. I'd imagine it isn't much different than burning horns.I have done it. We used a paste on small calves but sometimes had to cut one. We’ve had to dehorn at least 1 the last couple years. I hadn’t seen one before that in at least 10 years. Now I can hear that bellar and their snot flying everywhere as they try to get out of the shoot.Me too. I swear we had blue ones. Dehorning is what took stomach. mtmuley
Most of our steers get cut within an hour of being born but if they are born on the pasture they need to be cut when they are weened. We will be bringing them home probably in a week or 2. We used to have a big fat golden retriever that would eat every single testicle if they didn’t get saved.I have done it. We used a paste on small calves but sometimes had to cut one. I remember a 5 gallon bucket with ice. Dinner afterwards included the oysters. Deep fried. mtmuleyMost of our steers get cut within an hour of being born but if they are born on the pasture they need to be cut when they are weened. Grampa and his brother both had sheep and we did our own crimping on the lambs. I was the one holding them still while they performed the duties. The crunch, the bleating and mama watching us is something I won't forget. Had hogs for a while as well. Catching and holding for the vet was always more work than it should have been.Nanding never bothered me if youve watch the vet "crimp" one though.
