Anyone from Montana? Just wondering how dry it is out there and how are the deer and elk looking?

I will be hunting the Western part of MT this year.

If you had to pick one week to hunt in MT during Rifle season with best odds for deer and elk which week would you choose?

My last trip I hunted the last week and took a nice deer. The elk were tough to find. Of course they are always tough.

Kingfisher, I am no authority, given my record, but if I could only hunt one week I'd probably choose the last one too. I"d hope there was a bunch of snow for tracking and for getting them outta the super high country.Where ya goin? I live in W. MT.

We are finally getting some cool wet weather here in southwestern MT. up to 5 inches of snow in the mountains above 6000 feet last night. 0.5+ inches rain throughout most valleys, which is alot for around here.

I think the week after opening week of rifle is best. the game has been run around, but isn't all shot up at that point like it is later.
