Hey guys , kicking up an older thread, I've been using the Elk population PDF's on the FWP website to find units that look attractive based on my hunting preferences.
It seems like units with heavier timber often reflect lower population numbers when a neighboring higher population unit is more open. Does it have to do with the difficulty with effectively counting elk in such heavy timber? also how would counting the elk in the winter like it mentions they do affect those counts?
