MKC vs Eastmans?

No correction or learning needed. To each his own, just commenting on what I observed. The question is WHY do you need fast access for a blade you say only use for cutting joints and teeth. Not seeing any need for access outside a pack when you will be pulling out all manner of stuff already when a critter is down. Have not needed or carried a fixed blade on my person or in pack anywhere while out hunting in 10 years at least and skinned out and cut lots of joints ( and teeth) in that time with a folding scalpel type knife. I guess I honestly wonder more about why a guy creates reasons for more strap on gear than necessary. I just try to have less not more hanging off of me so I am not covered in crappola. So it was the ick factor of unnecessary strap on crap that caught my eye first. Then got to thinking about placement by neck.

A long way around to answering your question by saying 'you could leave the fixed blade knife in the truck or at camp and carry a smaller/sharper fully capable folding scalpel type that does everything including joints/teeth/head removal.' Barring that ask yourself why you think you need quick access and adjust or not accordingly.
Fair point. That’s how I used to carry it, in my hip belt pouch (sheathed) out of sight. However, as you jokingly mentioned being prepared for hand to hand combat my thought process was after seeing how fast bears charge during those bear spray simulations that if I got knocked down by a bear suddenly I would have instant access to a tool of last resort (presuming the tumble didn’t cause the knife to cut my jugular 😎). And if my pack is off I have the bench made on my bino harness. Will a 3” blade do anything to a bear to mitigate the mauling, idk maybe not. But that one guy shoving his fist in the bears mouth and as a result his mitten/glove coming off and getting lodged in the bears airway and causing the bear to suffocate and die has always served as inspiration for these crazy scenarios we all imagine in our minds. I don’t always have gloves on but figure if I put that knife in the bears throat it would have a hopefully similar result.

and work with a bunch of middle-aged engineers
I'm an engineer myself, but will say this with confidence; middle aged male engineers are one of the dumbest subsets of the human race I've ever encountered.

I listened to two middle aged engineers argue with each other for 1.5 hours about why an external door outside the lunchroom would sometimes stick open....They were basically saying the same thing for the first 1/2 hour then spent the next hour arguing why they didn't think they were saying the same thing.

At the risk of facing the shooting gallery here, I will say I have three of their knives. I have had them for a bit now. Two paracord handle models and one with a regular handle. I have had no issues with any of them and all have treated me well dealing with game animals. The two with the cord handles, I have had no issue keeping clean and stink free, with good soapy scrubbing and soaking, post use, where necessary.

Having said all of this, as some have already pointed out, they are proud$$$ of them for sure and why I have not purchased anymore than the three I have.

We can nitpick them for sure, as success comes with criticism but I do think it's neat to see a Montana company like this employing people and creating jobs.

I think they are probably great knives minus the price and the scarcity tactics. I laugh at the owner whining about “the butterfly boys”(bench made).

I got this puppy for under $20! Just feels so natural in the hand and shouldn’t lose it if I drop it on the ground like my victorinox. Blade is basically the same. After working with my buddy in the meat shop on some bison I can’t imagine using a different style of blade breaking down an animal.

The flex just lets you get into all those tight spots and get a nice clean bone!

Nothing fits the hand quite like a Dick.

Benchmade has been around for 47 years and has a great reputation.

MKC is what, 5 years old now?

Again, they have the "hype" marketing down.

I was looking at a Benchmade Steepcountry and the Argali Serac. Just for shits and giggles, I looked at the MKC equivalent now... It is almost double the Benchmade, and $80 more than the Argali. Same steel as the Argali, and I can actually order the Argali one since its in stock!

I haven’t followed that drama but there’s nothing wrong with taking a doo doo on the butterfly boys. They’re good but every knife is a minimum $30 more than anyone should be paying.

-a Spyderco fanboy that ignores their exorbitant prices.

I don’t understand how a knife co.(MKC) Can sale people a knife costing 250. To 600.00+
And not put a Handle on them?
Just a 5.00 Cord

Who’s the smart ones???

I went back to the OG havalon. So freaking sharp and lightweight. I got 100 blades off Amazon for like $20

Is that because you can’t sharpen a knife or what?

And I’m not poking fun with that question. I carried one for a couple years but you couldn’t pay me to carry one anymore
