Charter’s website states the 2” barrel model only weighs 12oz, if the 4” minimum isn’t necessary

Have you looked at the NAA revolvers? Not exactly cheap but probably the lightest on the market. I had an Earl model with I think a 4inch barrel. Haven't kept up on what they are offering now.

What’s the allure to a 4” barrel? Do you think a shorter barrel is less accurate? This is what I got my wife (prior to being married) complete with crimson trace grip/laser sight. Good for a beer can hit every shot at 20 yards. Price is not friendly. Smith Air Lite.. 317 Kit gun. Buy once cry once. I’ve got a number of .22 revolvers - this one steals the show every time. I’ve got the .357 version- very unruly to shoot but that one’s not a pinker.

The shorter barrel won't spread the snake shot loads. This isn't a "fun gun" it's strictly a snake killer. It needs to be light enough to carry in a hip holster for reasons stated and something she is familiar with.

Me too, but it fires 38 special or birdshot. 'Much easier to shoot more accurately than 357.

A buddy sent me a .38/.357 2" snub nose. I have a 100 or so snake loads in .38 . The 2" barrel gives a single monster hole at 15'. There's no pattern spread at all. The same issue with a 2" Beretta with .22 snake loads. The short barrels just won't spread the shot.

I'm going to have to try this with my j-frame clone.

So is a well placed rock. Sticks and rocks are cheap but tough to carry around working outside.

I actually did some pattern tests developing the .38 load. The first 2 are from my 6" S&W. The last is the same hand load from the snub nose. The 4.5 refers to the powder load.

Yup. They definitely went through sideways and intact.

I'd look for an old used aluminum framed revolver. Most of the department store guns would be great and were made (mostly) by reputable companies. I've got an old JC Higgins that is a lot of fun. Also I have an old "Western Automotive" made by High Standard. Neither cost over $100.
