Let's Hear About your favorite Wheel guns.

I have a classic 1972 (i.e. the floating "J" serial number) S&W Model 36, .38 snubby. Still all original, even the grips too!

I chatted with the FFL guy, and all he could tell me was that, yes, it actually was a real LEO's backup piece back in '72 based out of Ocala, Florida. Pocket holster? Ankle holster? Who knows how detectives carried these... But it's incredible and "hides" anywhere and nobody knows a thing!

S&W 629 Mountain Gun in 44 mag.
Great woods walking gun. I forget it's on my hip.

Shoots better than I ever expected. Bought around 1994 or so on a chance encounter.

I had been looking for a long time, never saw one.

Well one fine day I was completing a gun purchase at the gun shop and mentioned my fruitless quest for a Mountain Gun. The gun counter guy reared back a moment in thought, said hold on, and disappeared into the back.

A few minutes later he returned with what was clearly a blue plastic S&W pistol box.

I was breathless while he opened the box. It had come in that day and had not been checked in and put in the glass case (they don't sit long once on display he said).

My purchase had drained my checking account down too much to buy it, so I asked if he could hold on to it while I ran to the bank. Thankfully he did, and it was mine.

3 decades it was on my hip more often than not while deer hunting or hiking/fishing in the wilderness.

As to accuracy, several times while in the woods and not intentionally hunting I came across rough grouse in season, and took them with head shots.

I have a good number of firearms, and could never pick just one as "favorite", but that Mountain Gun makes me smile inside just posting about it now. I'll never sell it, but a lucky family member will inherit it.

I'll begin with one of mine. Smith And Wesson Model 15 Combat Masterpiece. Pinned contoured 4" barrel, glass smooth double action. 38 Special with adjustable sights. I like the factory walnut wood grips with Tyler T grip filler. Anybody use or remember Tyler T's.

Back in the days when all cops used revolvers the model 15 was a standard winner at PPC (Practical Police Course) events. Designed to be a double action. Pull is hardest at first then eases off just before letting off.
Mine is Smith & Wesson model 19 357 6 inch barrel. My cousin gave it to me when I was 21 years old. almost 50 years ago. I tried to give it back to him for years. He said nope you’ve had it for so long it’s yours now.
He passed away couple years ago, so I guess it really is mine.
