Be careful out there and plan something with your hunting partner(s) for me. Found out I lost mine on a trip I was supposed to be on yesterday.

If you have advice on how to support a grieving widow and child I’m all ears.

Stay in touch with her and try to help her out anyway possible. I'm sure she is in a grief-stricken panic not knowing what to do. Remember her world just turned upside down. Help her with the arraignments and later getting her finances figured out. It going to be a very difficult time ahead.

Have a list that takes a couple of weeks to cycle...either I call or they do. Many times I tell a business associate or new customer, "gotta take this, will call you back".

Make time to be a good listener.

Just being there for her and her family can be a huge help. Being able to just be with a person, not thinking that you have to say something or every minute needs to be filled with conversation. I learned that lesson after my 19 month old son died many years ago.

I’ve learned you can’t solve shit. Your role is support. Don’t ask shit tons of questions.

How old is the child? Too young to lose a father. If the child is old enough to fish im sure mom would like some alone time once in a while eventually.

Are they local? If so - just be there; she’s going to be too overwhelmed to take calls. Don’t ask “what can I do to help” - just be there.

As I’ve been through this in various capacities it’s best to make sure this person isn’t alone
