Flight week again…views from the aerial office. This one is your Duck Stamp dollars at work - grassland and wetland conservation easements in the Missouri Coteau. It’s a little droughty out there.



That’s a mile long flock of snow geese on the ground. Couldn’t quite fit them all in.

Me either. If I had better equipment we could actually do a count.

I think these birds are coming from a nearby WPA where they are roosting. Last Friday, we estimated 250,000 - 300,000 came off of that location to go feed, but we were kind of busy looking at some oil reclamation projects and not really counting. Based on weekend trends in other parts of our area, I would guess this is somewhat less than that. We lost a lot of birds over the weekend. But this year has had one of the biggest goose migrations I’ve ever seen come through here.

Just jumped from about 1600 to 14,500 snow geese in one day at Freezeout.
