Thought I would join my friend and take the kids to an ice fishing derby. It was a great day up north, sun came out, lots of folks turned out. Most importantly, the kids sure had a fun time.

The bummer was my daughter caught a little sunfish, my buddy said to save it and weigh it in, she wanted to pitch it back down the hole, so away it went. Got to the results to find they had three awards for the biggest sunfish and only 2 were turned in! She could have walked away with a prize. Each kid did get a pole from Walleye Unlimited, so that was cool.

I remember when my son was a fourth grader and I went to the Kiwansis Fishing derby here in Hamilton on the weekend that school got out. He was getting bored and not paying attention and a big fish took his bait and took his pole in the pond. He stepped on his pole and was in waist deep water, and looked at me like now what? I said reach down and grab it, so he goes under and comes up reeling and landed a 6 pound rainbow, everybody was cheering him. :D

Enjoy your kids, that seems like yesterday and he is graduating from university this year and will be moving away for work. :(
