Keys to an all day sit

²
I am pretty picky about tree selection. Regardless of climber or hanging I need at least 2 if not 3 in a cluster so I am not sticking out. Plus I hunt stupid high. Someone commented on not seeing deer in the middle of the day. If I had to guess over 50% of my archery kills are between 10-3 during the rut. In a travel corridor.
Hard to be picky about trees around here. We dont have that many lol. But I hate deer hunting from a ground blind. Gun season I dont mind sitting on the ground against a dead fall or whatever. Bowhunting from a hub blind, I just can't do it.

Same.

My keys to an all-day sit:

1. Good location. Confidence will keep you in the tree.

2. Comfortable stand. Summit-style seat for the win.

3. Staying warm. Hard to grind through that 10:00-2:00 period if you’re miserable.

4. Water and snacks.

5. Remoteness/ease of egress. Much easier to pull the pin hunting 200 yards from the truck than 1/2 mile or more.

6. Aesthetics. I find it much easier to sit in a pretty, open(ish) woods than in a tangled mess with low visibility. That doesn’t always lead to maximizing deer sightings midday, but I’m out in the woods for more reasons than just hunting deer.

2 things I do that you reminded me of.
100% nap. Especially if leaves are crunchy
If I absolutely am going to climb down due to cold I will give myself 15min to simply move. Climbing down would spike deer. And I would be gone. Moving for 15min will spook less possibly and I will still be hunting. Taking boots off and rubbing feet for starters.

A good seat cushion, Jetboil and Starbucks Via packets on a cold day and a good pile of podcasts to listen through on low with a single Airpod. Busted a pair of does this year with Uncle Randy and Ol Cal in my ear.

I love the idea of all day sits. I feel like I would rather shoot a deer in the morning or early afternoon than the last hour of the day, simply because I want daylight to track, gut and drag. I have certainly seen deer at all times of the day.

I think there are three main enemies for me and and all-day sit: Cold, Boredom and Hunger.

I have worked out a pretty good idea of what layers/clothing I need in order to withstand certain temps/windspeeds. At the coldest range, I will use electric socks and the adhesive chemical toe warmers. The toe warmers will run out of heat by midday at which point I turn on the electric socks which will last till the end of the day.

I do have an electric hoodie (Milwaukee brand). It is helpful but I don't use it often and I don't have it on the whole time. For my hands I use thin wool gloves with flip-over mittens and I put hot hands-on the back of my hands between the gloves and the mittens. I also have hot hands in the flip-over part of the mittens.

Battling boredom is a mindfulness practice. I try to enjoy the time in nature and really inspect everything around me. But I do bring an ebook, with the idea that I can pass some time reading whatever book I'm involved in. I find I don't do much of that. It is so much easier to just pick up my phone and lose time scrolling. I'd like to change that habit but it is easier some days than others...

It isn't too hard to fight hunger. This is funny to me, since I will eat continuously while I am at home or work, sitting in front of a computer. But when I am in the woods or in the shop I can pass many hours without thinking about food.

I do always take a big thermos of coffee, it is mostly for little warm ups throughout the day. I will bring some trail mix and an apple. Usually a couple cheese sticks and jerky or snack sticks.

I have never pulled out of an all day sit, but I have done some still hunting midday to see if there is better sign to set up for the afternoon. I figure if you can get to noon you owe it to yourself to stick around a few more hours for primetime.
