Is the Labrador breed heading in the wrong direction?

Weird looking lab.

I think it is interesting that folks have differing opinions on the American vs English varieties. To me, the fact that people who know their chit and hunt over their dogs more than I could ever hope to tells me it doesn’t really matter as much as the camps would like.

She’s an ok hunter, but a better coaster, and even better snuggler. Not sure if the dog shows test fer that.

I don't get the non-working/hunting/guard dogs. I'll only ever own pointing dogs the rest of my life. Our current dog has impressed me so much.

edit: besides @Ben Lamb you had to know using "always" that someone would call you out. This IS the internet.

Had 1 Male lab that was black. He passed at 10yr. We have Female chocolate that is 9yr. Both were American

We just got this guy. English. 1.5 yr old
78 lbs and not even filled out.
He is a Tank.. Big blocky head.
Never wanted a Yellow but he needed a good home...
He has been Awesome..

I prefer a big American/polar bear. He was definitely hyper as a puppy and doesn’t understand that lap dogs shouldn’t be 90 pounds, but he loves to hunt and loves sitting on the couch with his people when he’s not hunting.

A little exercise & the frenetic one settles in to her leather couch. Dogs deserve something fun every day. So does your sanity. PXL_20220624_230036375.jpg

Well since we are posting pictures of our oversized lap dogs. Here’s my lab his mom was American and I think his dad was 1/2 American and 1/2 English if I remember correctly.

Am not a fan at all of the picture the OP posted hope that’s not the new standard breeders are going for

Newfoundland's Finance Minister just won "Best of Breed" at the Westminster Dog Show with this Labrador retreiver. How long would that stumpy legged barrel chested thing last hunting in the field? Pfft! I am concerned this kind of show breeding will ruin the world's most popular and arguably best hunting dog. A few on here have lived long enough to remember how the dog show crowd ruined the Irish setter. Didn't do the German shepherd breed any favors either. But really, the Labrador retreiver? Is nothing sacred?

You should talk to @diamond hitch (although I get the feeling he's no longer here much), I feel like you guys could talk dogs all day...
