Problem is, multiple bills proposed annually for years now tilt heavily towards give away State resources w/ nothing in return for residents. On the other end are bills that actually pass that tighten up NR opportunity. Tug of war, but doesn't have to be.

So many cautionary tales of basically every other midwestern State. ND has a good model, but it operates a lot differently. It is a huge blessing to actually still be able to knock on doors and get access. So many other places that ship sailed some time ago.

On the flip side. The amount of people dumping the Illinois property to buy iowa might give me a glimmer of hope. Nah it'll just be some new douche buying it up.

Causal observation, land sales seem to be about 50% some kind of Beijing investment group (where no one ever hunts again, mostly row crop ground), and the rest split in half again between resident and NR recreational owners. Drive 30 miles down any stretch of highway in southern IA and every year you’ll see a new gravel driveway to a Morton building w/ a padlock on it.

Id keep out NR landowners entirely. Theres a lot of mental gymnastics (some very useful idiot will talk about "incentives" im sure) about all of it - but the reality is that not a single one of them is your representations constituent. Looking at history - these folks are never satisfied and will always want more of the pie.

Good time to nip it in the bud and not create a wealthy entitled hunting class who subsidizes/create jobs for lobbyists screwing people who live there.

After the meeting I was in Monday I don’t think some of these guys know what they are voting for. They want to lower property taxes and keep NR from buying land but they vote for the sponsors of these bills. They absolutely hate my conservation department and they do not know shit about state codes, even though they think they are geniuses.

I was talking to my friend this week who owns the lumber yard. I asked him how his summer was shaping up. He said it wasn’t as busy as he’d thought. I asked him who was building and he said he only has a few from out of county. Every week there is 3 or four plat approvals for old farmers plotting off 3 acres for their kids to build a house. 3 is the minimum acreage you have to have to build a new house. I d like to see that upped to 20 or 40.

No Senator goes broke after gets into office...that tells you what you need to know about each party. My daddy had a name for a person which sold themself for money. No matter the party, the selling is rampant.

Oh, but, but, my party is the real party. No it is not. Both parties start wars. Both parties run up the deficit. Both parties are a cult where the love of the R or D next to the name blinds the voter to the sins so at best the voter might say, "Well, I am voting for a crook/pedo/womanizer/draft dodger/bankrupt/felon but by golly is better than the other candidate because he is the party of crooks/pedos/womanizers/draft dodgers/bankrupts/felons.

Gets tiring holding your nose in the voting booth. Gets tiring to see critical discussion stomped down in the name of patriotism. Gets tiring seeing people vote against their interests while the same voter would be able to pass a polygraph that they actually believe the candidate will soon make things better or turn back the clock to a "better" time for them. How is that working out for you?

The middle class has shrunk and the lower class has grown. Under both parties. Even when, as is the case at this moment, one party controls the majority of the U.S. House, Senate and Presidency. One party has the power yet can't pass a responsible budget much less bring jobs back to America or tame inflation or make anything greater.

The political medicine show talks a good game while offering plenty of amazing tonics that your lack of success is not your lack of hard work or bad luck but those scary people stealing your on-ramp to success. Those tonics are merely stream water with a fancy label on the bottle being pushed by a charlatan. Neither party is a true path to anything but amassing wealth for the politicians while they stoke fear in your hearts that the other party is evil. News flash, if you become successful it will not because of any change either party makes this year or this decade but because you solved the riddle in spite of the ineffectiveness of both parties to deliver prosperity.
