I was in Vegas last weekend and missed the opener. Last night I snuck out of work a little early and sat for a few hours. There was zero wind but he deer were moving a lot.

I had two small bucks behind me and 3 does out front. I was going to shoot the larger doe but the bucks behind me spooked before she presented a shot and the entire group took off. This guy came out a few minutes later. He knew something was up but I still could have killed him a few times. I have some great video of him that is still on the camera.

Looking back I should have known better to not sit where I did. While I had a lot of action there was light to no wind. The deer get really close in this stand and I think the lack of wind had them on alert from the get go. You couldn't cover any noise up and I think they were catching something with there noise because of the lack of wind. It was a great first sit in the stand by myself. I have been in a tree a few times with my bows trying to get them a deer.

Saw a really nice 10 driving out by one of our spots. He will get shot if he presents himself.

Awesome photo, Iowa is on my bucket list for archery whitetails!

I'd have a hard time passing that up, especially in bow season. Sounds like you had a great evening.

Great first sit. Im waiting for the water to drop a little here in the cedar valley. I dud sit last Saturday but it wass a swamp land.

I am actually the opposite here in Iowa. If I would have had my muzzy in my hand I may have shot him. I get two weekends to muzzy hunt. I get about 4-6 weekends to hunt with a bow during prime rut.

He is smaller than the deer I have passed up the last three seasons. I shoot a lot of does to make up for it. I think it has been 3 years since I have killed a buck.

And that explains why I've never really shot a big buck! Now deer hunting here for me is in such small blocks of time its mostly all about getting a deer in front of my young kids. Good luck on the rest of your season.
