The weekend before thanksgiving we had a family gathering to get to on Saturday. I told my wife I wanted to be in the stand by 4 at the latest. My wife and her sisters get together and we always run late. After dragging her home home I made it to the stand at 4 30.

5 minutes go by and here comes a buck. I stop him at 20 yards and let it fly. He runs about 15 yards into some thick brush and lays down. About 5 minutes later here comes another buck, much bigger than the one I shot. I watch him go right into the brush and decided to fight the buck I shot.

Now it gets interesting. My buck runs back out and lays down. Big boy circles him and charges. Again my buck runs about 15 yards and lays down. Well big boy wasn't done yet and circles again. I'm thinking leave him alone but no dice. He charges again and my buck gets up and lumps away. Thankfully another buck grunts to the east and pulls big boy away.

I decided to wait until the next morning to look since he didn't die right away. The wife divides to go with me to look. After about 2 hours we find him floating in a shallow duck pond about 70 yards from where I shot him. The shot was a little back. That explains why he didn't die right away.

Finally broke the curse. Had this bow for about 5 years and this was my first kill with it. Shot many deer with my old bow but not with this one.

Congrats on breaking the curse! Way to get it done.

I'm headed there for muzzleloader the first week of January and can't wait!

I know how that is I've had a new Hoyt for 3 seasons now no tag wrapped around anything yet. Lots of near misses with dogs and all manner of things. Way to get the monkey off your back. Congrats!!
