Here is my situation. New Nosler 17 Remington brass. New un primed unloaded cases will chamber just fine bolt handle drops no issues. Once i load a new case the cartridge will chamber no problem but the bolt will not drop. I checked the bullet seating depth its well below the max.

Im lost have no idea whats going on
Any advice???

If the new unloaded cases allow bolt to close, I wouldnt think it would be headspace. It does sound like your bullet seating depth could be the culprit. Is it a custom chamber on the barrel?

Well i found the culprit. The nosler necks are a whole lot thicker I was able to drop the bolt handle on a few with a bullet loaded but it was tight. Wear marks on the necks So that means i will have to turn all the necks!!! Nosler quality control?? I will call them Monday and see if they have good customer service or not

When you say bullet seating depth is below max, are you talking book max or have you actually measured the distance to the lands on your rifle/chamber?

Also, you say unprimed cases chamber just fine. Are you fully seating the primers? Have seen this before.

Its not a custom chamber. The case necks are a lot thicker. I checked them compared yep a lot thicker

I measured the distance and yes their way below the measured max. The issue I just found out is that the necks are a whole lot thicker you can easily see it So when you seat a bullet the neck is way to tight to drop the bolt handle

I solved the problem. I just happened to have a LE Wilson inside neck reamer for the 17. I ran the reamer into the neck cutting brass out Ran the case into the Wilson bushing neck resizing die seated a 30 gr bullet. Crossing my fingers. Seats perfectly bolt handle drops perfectly. What a relief.
Thanks for all your input and advice
