Idaho Mentored youth

It's a great plan, and I hope it isn't abused, putting people in for premium draws they have no intention of hunting, while little johnny puts in for a cow in an easy to draw unit, just so he can hunt. I'm on your side, and am glad the legislature put the regulation in place, just can see some potential for abuse.

"All of these rules are subject of legislative review."

In Oregon the original tag holder has to be the mentor. I wish that was the case here, but it doesn't say that.

"A Hunting Passport is a special authorization that allows the person to take wildlife only when they are accompanied by a mentor and participating in the Mentored Hunting Program. They may participate in the program only for one year, and the Hunting Passport expires December 31 of the year it was issued."

"A person with a Hunting Passport at least 8 years old may hunt small game and most upland game birds, but a person must be at least 10 to hunt turkey or sandhill crane and at least 12 to hunt big game."

Dang guess I read it wrong the first time. I was hoping you could take a kid after big game before 12. Oh well back to plans to take them out of state to hunt big game before 12.

It's terrific to see TTTY (transfer tag to youth) that I proposed in a rough fashion at a F&G
Commission meeting a year ago come to fruition!
I hoped that the legislation drafted would close the vast majority of the loopholes. It appears that it did.

Good job. I think overall its a good plan. I was hoping to get my kids out before 12 for big game. But small game and birds will be fun.

I think they missed the boat on this one. They should have mirrored the Oregon program and let kids younger than 12 hunt big game. They should also have let kids under 12 in the program more than a year.

If I have an 8 year-old, I can take him bird hunting one year. The same kid cannot hunt as a 9-year old.
