Idaho elk hunting...

I bit the bullet and sent in for one of the leftover Idaho elk tags, unit 26 in the Middle Fork. I plan on hunting with the stick and string with a buddy from back home (eastern ND).

I think I am going to head out there for 4 or 5 days at the end of July for scouting. I haven't pencilled in any dates yet and I am waiting for maps to plan the specifics of the trip. Anyone else game for an expetitionary trip?

If you’re going to hunt with a bow why are you choosing the middle fork zone? I'm not trying to criticize you. I'm just curious.

What is so bad about unit 26 for archery? Please advise... I hunted the Salmon unit and did OK. Is it the same type of country?

The unit is open for early rifle. Where you going in from Smalls? Are you thinking if you tie one hand behind your back, the odds are way lower that you'll have to pack one out of there? Sometimes the best way to wreck a good hunt is to actually shoot something!
