Hunting Ruffed Grouse with my German Short Hair Pointers

Went hunting last Saturday in MN on some public land with my 13 year old GSP. She and her younger counterpart did well and we flushed 4 birds in about 3hrs of hunting.

Should have brought home 2, but whiffed on an easy shot as I almost stepped on one that the dogs didn't smell, and about crapped my pants when it flushed at my feet. Managed to miss the grouse 3 times. Below is a pic of my old dog Thunder with the bird I managed to collect below. Hope to get her out again this year, she was stiff and sore the next day and it showed. Weather was great and it made for a good memory.

So fun with a good old dog. I hunt with a man that has a 14 year old GSP, and he can only do an hour. Aspen is deaf and partly blind, but his nose still works great.

Congrats on the hunt and getting your 13 yr old out. It always seems like there are birds that should have made it into the bag but didn't on my hunts.
