In the past I have always shot whatever rifle or shotgun was around, and have always made it work. I am finally getting around to upgrading various rifles (and then shotguns), and I am trying to figure out what options there are to increase LOP. There seem to be a few options for adjustable stocks, but most start looking tactical, which is not what I feel like carrying around while hunting. I also bought a slip on pad that you can add shims to, but it feels out of place and awkward. Has anyone come across a way to get a longer than factory LOP without spending a ton of cash?

What action is it and what is your upper limit for $?

I have two howa 1500 short actions and a Remington 700 long action to start (and a few shotguns and other rifles to follow). For the dollar limit I would like to keep it under $500 per gun, but the lower I can figure out a solution, the more guns I can dial in to my exact LOP (at least that’s the long term goal).

it depends how much you want to lengthen it. You can find or make a spacer to go between the stock and butt pad. Or find a longer aftermarket recoil pad. I’ve been lucky that usually a longer recoil pad is all I needed.

There are also after market adjustable pads. I’m not very familiar with them though and don’t know their cost. Try searching midway, brownells, etc.

You might check out Boyds Stocks. They offer several choices in style of stock and type of wood finish. You can get them built to you desire LOP or you can choose one of the models with adjustable LOPs.

Some of the stocks I need to lengthen by almost an 1-1/2”. I was looking at some of the Boyd’s stuff, but there are some mixed reviews out there. I might just pull the trigger on one and see for myself.

Ive had 1-1/2" or more added to a couple shotguns

On my Beretta I added 1-1/2 w a custom spacer and aftermarket grind to fit decelerator pad... had a smith donit and he charged about $150 i think

Years ago i had a smith add a chunk of wood to my old 870 stock and refinish to match..added aftermarket pad and increased LOP by 2.5 to 3" total....i recently removed the stock (had to cut it to get to the buttstock bolt) and replaced w a stock buttstock when i sold the gun so theres an extra cut line i tried to cover over in this pic...but u could have the same done for a couple hundred bucks i bet

I havent adjusted any of my rifles.

If theres someone around that could 3D print spacers then i bet some cool DIY things could come out of it...
