How Cold Is Colorado In the Beginning of May?

Might do a three day weekend trip to Colorado for scouting and shed hunting in unit 18. I was planning on packing in with a small tent and sleeping in the woods unless some people tell me its to cold at that time...? Or.... roads are not clear yet?

My birthday is May 5th...a couple of years it snowed, a couple of years I've had my central air on, but it's usually quite comfortable.

I've slept out in a small tent off the back of an atv in late April to early May in the past during turkey season up on the Uncomphagre Plateau. Long as you have a warm bag you should be fine. Just remember some of the forest road gates to the higher country don't open until late May to June 1st.

Yep - it's deep up there this year. I'd find a webcam and a Snotel site ('Snow Depth' on this page: https://www.wcc.nrcs.usda.gov/snow/snow_map.html) close by and check it closer in before you commit.

It probably wont be cold, but that does not mean the snow will be gone. Last year we snowshoe camped on memorial day weekend to ice fish in tshirts.

I grew up running around grand county, not the place I would choose to camp in May... especially this year. Bring a 0 degree bag and stay in the timber and you will be fine.
