So my first ever new out of the box rifle was purchased 2 years ago. It's a Weatherby Vanguard Highcountry in 6.5prc. (Link Here) I put a VX-5HD on it that I got from Schmalts and I took my first animals with it last year on pronghorn hunts in Wyoming and Montana (I still need to do the write-up and the pressure is building to post the story). This year I drew a late rifle elk tag in Arizona a planned to take this rifle over my model 700 .308.
I decided to get a bi-pod to install on it and chose a Tricer bi-pod. 4th of July weekend I setup to install the bi-pod and as I was screwing down the mount on the sling stud I found out the hard way that the sling studs are just screwed into the plastic with a course thread screw. No metal threads, no nut, no anything to hold it in place other than the cheap plastic. So out came the screw and a big hunk of plastic with it. So, now I either have to Frankenstein some sort of 'fix' to allow the sling stud to be permanently fixed, or swap the entire thing and get a new stock with a sling stud or other rail system to be able to attach my bi-pod.
So here's where I need your help! I was originally just going to get a Boyd's laminate with a thumb-hole and call it a day. But now I'm curious about what else is out there. I'm open to all options and am even considering some type of chassis system. So what say you HT rifle modifiers? What are your favorite options for replacements stocks or chassis systems? I'm open to any and all options. I'd like to stay under $500. Looking cool is okay, but really I'm more interested in functionality and light weight (although I know lighter weight normally costs more, so weight isn't really a deal-breaker for me). The only thing I'm not interested in is classic walnut/wood stocks.
Thanks all for the recommendations!!
