Grizz attacks hunter in Montana

A segment of our local SAR cross-trains and certifies with defense weapons in order to respond immediately to a bear attack victim, and not have to wait for wardens or county LEO's on the ground. Seems worthwile in a situation like the above. Hopefully a quick and full recovery for the victim.
That would not be a position one would volunteer for glibly........

My plans got switched up a bit yesterday. Hope the guys alright. It’s getting old seeing these signs at multiple trail heads a year. View attachment 291749View attachment 291750
So this is "kissy Bear" otherwise Known as Rudy Noorlander the guy who survived this Grizzly Bear attack. Just to let you know that I am alive and well. Thanks for posting the Go Fund Me link, it was the only thing that kept my business going. Any questions I'm up for answering. I have done podcast, news stories and interviews and a bunch of other videos out there that people copied off of one or another link.

Glad you're okay!

Kissy bear is a WILD username to choose based on what you went through. I appreciate someone with some humor though. I hope things have gone well for you since the attack.

The nickname came from a podcast that came out while I was still in the hospital and it stuck. It separates me from all the other grizzly bear attack victims.

The account of Rudy even being there had nothing to do with Rudy being a hunter. He rents ATVS and went to help hunters track a deer they had wounded.

The daughter’s account also said the bear ripped his lower jaw off. I don’t know to what extent that injury is, but to rebuild someone’s jaw doesn’t sound very promising. I hope he can recover and get back to a normal life…
This is Rudy, I am recovered and back to as normal as I am going to get. Don't take those little everyday things for granted, like eating, drinking swallowing and talking.

Is that mandating people stay out, or just a very strong suggestion?
It's a mandatory closing. There is one up in that area again and states the fine and possible jail time if caught in the area. Let alone the fact that there is a carcass and bears in the area. Fines and jail time are better than what else could happen to you if you go into that area.

Absolutely brutal attack. Prayers for this man. I've thought more about deterrent placement in the last few years than ever before. I see lots of people with spray hooked to the back of their backpacks and I don't think it's much more than dead weight at that point. Things happen fast and carnage only takes a few seconds.

I did hear they found and shot the bear that killed a female hiker near West Yellowstone after receiving a call that it was in someone's kitchen.
Thank you for the prayers. Like everyone says, you can't believe everything that you read or see in the news. I had bear spray on my gun belt right in front of my holster. If I didn't have my gun in my hand already I would not have even gotten it it out of the holster. That's how quick it happened. And I have had a lot of bear encounters in my life starting at 10 years old.

I read about this on yahoo. It had the Go Fund Me description in the article. Sounds brutal.

The worst part was reading the comments to the article in yahoo. I would say over half the commenters were slamming the guy and saying something along the lines of that he deserved it because he was a hunter. Was surprised to see the ridiculous amount of anti-hunting sentiment among the comments.
I agree about the lack of humanity and sympathy in some people. But some people have nothing better to do than to put others down. Most of those people don't realize that grizzly bears used to be roaming all over the United States. I say that I am the poster boy of why grizzly bears need to be delisted, at least in this area.

I was recounting the tale in response to “hunters shot a bear”. Which they didn’t. Just a deer.

I should have said “a deer”, not “the deer”. Two adult grizzlies that close together this time of year? One of them a boar? Makes me think they were on a carcass. The ”wrong deer”. Hell, maybe he followed magpies thinking they were on the right deer, but then he found a different carcass. But it’s all speculation- hence the “my guess”.
It was crows that we were watching and advancing to, to see if it was the deer that we were looking for. The bear was on a different deer and a stash of pine nuts according to the fish wildlife and parks report.
