Went for a float last week. Caught a few suckers to fry up after the trash fish post.

I asked three guys in a nearby boat if one of them would trade their spinning rod for my fly rod, since they were catching fish.
We had tried a dozen flies and finally put on the flashiest fly we had to match the gold spoon the other boat was using.
Bingo.
Observe and adapt.

Cold, wet hands. Fingers numb and nearly functionless. It's official, winter fishing. My favorite.

Every year around March I get excited for rainbows running up the local tributaries to spawn. The first fish of the year was a damn good one.

After ten days of healing up I decided I was fit to shuffle down to the river to try swinging flies with the switch rod.
Pretty slow. Down river wind, which I prefer. Easy casting, and wet hands are somewhat sheltered by your body.
Walked up on big dead raccoon submerged in the water. No idea how he met his demise.
A few fish landed. This guy was strong.
Great holiday fish.
Hoping to fish the lake before Christmas if the wind is tolerable. 50mph gusts isn't worth it.
Hard to believe things are not iced over.
