Coyotes killed a fawn right behind the house last night. I got up at 4:00 to let the dogs out and stoke the fire. My young Brit who usually charges off stayed close with his nose into the wind. It's not unusal to have different critters around at night but this was something he didn't want to mess with. Back in the house I heard some soft yips but I thought they were coming from up on the ridge. When it got light out I put the dogs out and the young one took off. When I went looking for him I found the fawn. Had to be early this morning as they hadn't ate very much. I have never found a kill this close to the house before. When my wife got up about 8:00 I told her about it. She looked out the sliding glass door and said "what's that on it"? Sure enough a coyote was eating away. Cracked the slider a little and nailed him. I've never seen one act that bold before.
