Got lucky and filled my Idaho bear tag in the last 10 minutes of closing day on Sunday. Ain't gonna lie, he's little, but it's my first bear. Although I've watched a ton of bears, I have only bought a bear tag and hunted them the last 2 years. It is a ton of fun.
A good buddy watched it through the spotter as I made the 2 hour stalk to get close. Came around the corner and spooked him. He ran just a few yards into some tall grass and was trying to figure out what I was. I shot him straight on through the chest at 50 yards. I didn't do an autopsy, but he was dead before he hit the ground, the 110gr. Accubond out of my buddies 25-06 did the trick.
I'm excited to try the meat. It was a long night getting everything off the mountain, but it's always worth it. We saw a ton of bears this spring, and made multiple stalks. Every stalk takes 2-3 hours in this area, so it just seemed to never work out. Either we ran out of daylight in the evenings, the bears made it to bed in the mornings before we could get in range or we got winded. Here are a few pics from this Spring.
