Did a quick search and didn't see where this has been discussed.

I understand discontinuing certain models. I think there’s too many variables that aren’t significantly different enough to make it worth while. It’s not like they are eliminating some platforms completely, just streamlining offerings. I’ve wondered just how well some of them actually sold. But what is surprising to me,is they are discontinuing .40 S&W altogether. Apparently there’s no longer much interest in it???
Never been a 10mm Lite fan myself.

To be honest i actually like my 40s. 200 gr at 1k bear load from underwood is not a lot different than the 200 gr 10mm HSM (40 fps) with a smaller gun and/or more ammo. Seems like 10mm has found a lot more favor lately.

.40 s&w was the round that many law enforcement agencies used for years. Ammo cost and availability have driven many of them to the 9mm, as well as the ability to mount optics on the Gen 5. The recoil reduction on the 9mm is significant enough to make many average shooters better.

While I haven't gotten into the Glock's, I can appreciate their proven reliability.
I've handled many over the years. The two biggest detractors for me was the grip shape and the trigger.
I hear both have been somewhat addressed in the later generations.

From a reliability standpoint, I've never had any issues with the FN, H&K, Walther and Springfield that I carry.

As for 40 S&W, I sold the ones I had. Didn't care for the recoil. Especially for follow up shots.

I use 9mm Luger and 45 ACP.
Both of my 45s are shooting 185gr LSWC at 950fps. No leading issues, accurate first and follow up shots.

Granted, we don't have brown bears here in PA. But having way too close contact with black bear and elk has changed my bullet choices from when I first started carrying.

I'm glad I got my G29 when I did, then. And, yes, I guess you could say it's a "handful", but I didn't buy it to shoot steel plates at 20 yards for fun. For its intended purpose, all of the options were "handfuls," but this option was the one I decided I could draw and get multiple shots on the (large) threat the fastest when my life depends on it.

As for Glocks in general, there are a lot of great guns out there, maybe even some more reliable than a Glock. But I don't have the time or resources to extensively test each one under the multitude of circumstances and conditions one might encounter. Fortunately, a lot of deep-pocketed agencies have done just that and made the determination that Glocks were the best choice for their operators. As mtmuley said, they tend to go bang every time the trigger is pressed, no matter the conditions.

I never got into a Glock. No particular reason. More of a Smith, Sig, H& K guy.

I have a few 10"s ( greatest ever) and the couple .40's

Its a huge difference if loaded to full capacity.

@belshawelk I am not derailing @pwrwgn57 thread, but I am an H&K guy and when you mentioned them, it made me look to see if they made a 10mm. Surprisingly they do not. Glad again that I have the G40. (Your comment made me gut check the H&K site)

If they did I would own it. The compact USP is hard to beat. Mine is a.45.

I was always intrigued that they continued manufacturing the gen3 and gen4.

With as many pistols as they make I do wish they would have had a more sensible nomenclature for naming them - something you could tell the size and caliber from.

A .40 SW isn’t really adding anything over an 9mm other than unnecessary recoil.
I’ve seen a bunch of critters shot with both and I tend to agree. I do like my 10mm though, with wide flat nose hard casts I’ll put up with a bit more recoil for a larger diameter bullet.

I also think there would be a lot of merit to a .45 ACP with hard casts. I’ve always thought the .45 in a full size Glock or 1911 is easy to shoot and a lot less snappy than a .40.

Critters shot with 40?
