We got into the dog food making as a way to utilize more or the animal opposed to "just giving one to the dogs".
Here is what we do:
We now usually save all hearts, liver, kidneys, gizzards and eggs from all animals including elk, deer, fish and birds harvested. We also don't toss out or remove any "bad meat" due to bloodshot or gut entering the meat. This goes into the dog pile as well. Finally, when we remove fat and silver skin from our select cuts, it goes into the pile. Everything gets cut into grinder size pieces and froze on sheets and then put in gallon bags for when we are ready to make a batch.
For veggies, we save the extra and less than perfect items from our garden and cube them and sheet freeze and add to gallon bags for the freezer like the meat. This is carrots, green beans, peas, cucumbers, zucchini and even pumpkin sometimes. We also save things from our daily lives like cut offs from strawberries celery and apple cores
To start, we pull out 8# of the meats and run it thru the grinder frozen. This is way easier than dicing up an elk liver into 1/2 pieces! We get a stock pot going and start frying the meat in batches with a bit of water to help with sticking until enough fat coats the bottom.
Once all partially cooked as it doesn't have to be browned to perfection like for us humans we add in the water. Its about 10 cups.
As that warms out, we get the veggies out and add by volume about the same amount of the veggies as the meat. They get tossed into the pot. Finally we add in a bag of rice (i think they are 1lb, its about 4.5 cups).
Cook until the rice absorbs all the water and mix well. We do the muffin pan trick as well and load up the muffin pans with the mixture and into the freezer. From there they go into gallon bags and back into the freezer.
I take the dog bowls and put the frozen meal into them right after they are done eating and they get thawed out enough by their next mealtime.
Having three dogs, its crazy how much money we have saved on dog food. Our only expense is time and rice (i guess water too isn't free!). We still go through some regular dog food but id say we are at about 75% or more meals using this. It also apparently is way healthier for them as we have had our vet comment on how he has noticed how shiny their coats are and asked us what we use for dog food.

I feed my beaglehounds roosters, old hens, deer, rabbit, squirrel, elk trimmings, raw eggs. Fresh road kill deer. I feed it raw. Been doing it for years. Dogs are healthy. Clean teeth. Dogs need live enzymes and collagen. Cartlidge, tindens and bone marrow. Cooked dog food is a diet of Cheetos! Best of all, they leave nothing in the pen to shovel. 75% of cooked dogfood gets shoveled. I've been called uncivilized but the dogs love me! Ever wonder why coyotes always have bright white teeth with no brown stuff on them like dogs get???

I give my GSD elk/deer/antelope shanks/silverskin trimmings/livers/tongue and sometimes the hearts mixed with chicken breast.

My guy. Are you saying your dogs stopped pooping when you put them on a raw diet?
I mean I'm not a doctor, but...
They dont poop as much because they absorb real dog food. Corn is not absorbed in dog gut. Why would we think that canines are supposed to eat cooked food??? Vegetables??? I read about this a few years back. Vets studied why Alaska dogs were living longer than everywhere else. It came down to natural canine diet with live enzymes and exercise.My guy. Thought most sled dogs ate a “stew” that was dried salmon boiled in a pot?
Because I put a bullet in them before they get old enough......Just sayin'!
I have a very large golden retriever i feed venison based dog food. Ground venison, sweet potatoes, carrots and a green vegetable like peas or green beanns. Sometimes ill put in items from the garden like zuchini, tomatos, even green peppers. He also gets purina pro plan as well as NuVet vitamins. 75% of his diet is venison. So many dogs die from cancer im convinced its the commercial dog food.

What brand food are you using?
Purina pro plan sensitive skin. My vet recommended i keep him on so some kibble at least while he is a pup.
Just put our 8 year old german wirehair down this week because of cancer. I have a feeling you're right

One year I got a good black and tan beagle bred with good black and tan male. I fed the female a 100% raw meat diet the entire pregnancy. She had 7 healthy and beautiful pups. 1) All 7 were the exact same size. 2) All 7 survived and were equally healthy. 3) All seven were females! I've had dozens of litters of beagle pups over many years and NEVER had any of those 3 things happen, much less all 3 happen!!!
