First Taxidermy

Picked up my first mount from the taxidermist today. I was so worried about the weather, and fitting my bull in the back of my truck with its 5.5 foot bed.

My best friend was also picking up his archery moose. After a 4 hr drive we got both heads loaded up (the elk fit with less than an inch to spare).

The drive home was uneventful, and we immediately set to work hanging the moose mount. No problems there, and it looked great. My elk on the other hand was a challenge with our 8 ft ceilings. After a lot of cussing and thinking he would be banished to the garage, we did some rearranging, did a quick score of the elk, and got him hung up inside where he would be safe from the dogs.

Their reaction to the newcomer was one of Holy Crap! What the heck is that thing? Is he a threat? Lots of barking from our newest member of the dog clan. Lots of laughter on our part. Life is good.

If you need a good taxidermist in Wyoming, Kims Art Wild in Lander would be tough to beat. Great work and we got our stuff back in just under 9 months.

I've always just done my own Euros before. Probably won't get anything else shoulder mounted unless it's a big mulie or a 80 plus inch pronghorn. Both of those are gonna be tough sledding.

I forgot to mention, that was my first bull. I used to be so limited on my own personal hunting time but I still came so close so many times before this hunt. I've killed cow elk, passed on a 6 pt at 80 yds that I probably could have neck shot cause I thought he was gonna turn and give me a good broadside shot. I've called in a number of bulls for other hunters and guided other hunters on successful hunts, and I've made a non fatal shot on a bull with my bow because I used the wrong pin. This was the first time I made it happen.

There's no doubt Ive learned a ton and become a better elk hunter by ingesting everything @Big Fin has put out. I owe him a big thanks for what he does teaching the young guys like myself. I got this bull in a general area with low success rates. Without all the knowledge I've gained from guys like Randy and Corey Jacobsen platforms I'd still be wandering around lost so to speak. So a huge thank you is in order.
