First One of the Year

Pulled over at a bridge over the Yellowstone. Planning on hiking down the steep embankment to fish.
Out of nowhere a mature bull popped up right next to the truck.
I effing bolted for the other side of the vehicle.
Missed a good photo op.

Almost became a statistic

I had a friend, who is no longer with us. He told me this story. Back in the 80's and 90's he was working in the oil fields of Alaska when one day a lone musk ox showed up. He and a bunch of other guys decided to go have a little fun, so they surrounded the critter and started moving in on it. That old musk ox picked out one guy and made a break for it right through him. Sent the guy flying through the air. He wasn't hurt so everyone laughed about it for a long time to come.

Later that same year the same guy who got thrown by the musk ox was hiking up a river with some friends on a fishing trip. They stumbled onto a sow grizzly hidden in the brush. She didn't attack, she just wanted to get out of there and get out fast. It turned out that the path of least resistance just happened to be directly through the musk ox wrangler. She slammed into him sending him flying down the bank and out into the river. Again, he wasn't really hurt but everybody was too a little shaken to laugh at the time, but everyone got a good laugh later on after a few beers had been consumed and the nerves had settled.

Slightly different, but still bison being wildlife while people think they’re pets.

I think they were shot because the wealthy golfers were mad they got on the golf course.

Escaped bison shot after nearly impaling Missouri rancher

Three bison were shot and killed in St. Albans, Missouri after one nearly impaled a rancher, prompting the Sheriff’s office to euthanize the animals for the safety of the community.
