I'm looking to go west on a mule deer hunt. I'm not sure I care what state I go to my biggest need is the date. I need the date to be middle of September or any time in December. I want to hunt with the rifle. Is this even posible?

There are zones that open in Wyoming in September.

For most western mule deer hunts you will need to build points for a couple years.

Backcountry units open up on September 15th for rifle in MT. We hike into the Bob's each year for elk in September. I've seen a few mules back in there.

Get a muzzleloader and go to Colorado.

There are some early rifle hunts in Colorado but most require some points. There may be one or two that don't and you can always check the leftover list. As stated, a few WY units open middle of September for rifle mule deer.
