First elk hunt and wanting to take Dad

I asked a similar question before and am curious if anything has changed. I want to take my Dad on a hunt next near. He is not a hunter and just wants to backpack the backcountry and be part of the experience. I want to go after elk and am a meat hunter so I couldn't care less if it is a cow or bull. Driving from Indiana I want to see what is going to be the best option for OTC vs travel distance and overall cost. My dad is only 60 and more than capable of humping a pack around the mountains so terrain severity isn't a limiting factor. This is a retirement gift for him so I want to get the ball rolling to surprise him early before next archery season so we aren't planning last minute. I'll be hunting with a longbow if that influences advice at all.
