Very cool. We hung a similar beam above our bed and to "distress" it we pulled it behind the truck for a mile or so! I like your method much more.

Finally drafted some help to hang the mantle. I think the proportions look good. The stain could have been a little darker, all the windows in the room really lightened it up. But we are happy with it.
