I use a sawdust coated in kerosene for my fireplace. Buy it at D&B. Paper scraps would eventually get caught in the top of my chimney.My moose outfitter last year used something he called "Dude Dust"
Chain saw dust saturated in diesel. A couple of Tablespoons would start the woodstove under kindling, no paper.
He got ticked if anyone ran a chainsaw in camp without a blue tarp catching the shavings.

Every pack we own and my bino harness has a pocket with a few cotton balls soaked in Vaseline that are vacuum sealed and a 2nd lighter that is vacuum sealed.Cotton balls covered in Vaseline hasn't failed me yet.
