I have a friend that lives in Eureka MT and says he could help me with a place to stay and maybe some places to hunt. Have any body hunted up that way for ELK or MULE DEER. He says there are a lot of whitetails up there. Should i take him up on it. I just spoke with him to day so i dont even know how hard a tage will be to get. Advice welcome

It's mostly National forest, timber co land, easy access.
The timber is SO thick there is no " road hunting" .
Lota wolf few elk, moose, or deer anymore...

Good qty of whitetail, some muley, little elk and depleting moose.

Of Montana elk hunting, Eureka would be one of the high end challenging areas. The forest overgrowth and lack of glassing opportunity - even for archery are a bitch.
Then wolves, cats, griz and black bears... It's the "full Monty" of predator v ungulates. Wolves are the expanding addition that are depleting the resident elk herds.

The numbers at check stations are crap. Some pretend that it's not an accurate reflection though ignore the fact the hwy 93 Olney check station is the main artery to Flathead Valley and been around for ages collecting the same info year after year.

Think last year 6 total elk were recorded coming from Eureka ---> Olney check station ---> Flathead Valley.
