Elk Outfitters, NM or UT

[BigGameEnergy]

Looking for recommendations to Archery Elk Hunt on ranches or outfitters in New Mexico or Utah that offer landowner tags, so I can skip the draw. Next year will be one of my last years I can elk hunt for a while so want to pay the extra money to be able to guarantee a hunt. Any help or suggestions is much appreciated

Check out Borderland Outfitters in NM. A friend and coworkers brother owns it. There good people.

My experience in talking to NM outfitters is, even though you are willing to book a spot and put down the money now, they cant give you a price on the landowner tag right now, and you will go into the draw for the unit the leased ranch is in. Then after you don’t draw, they will get their landowner tags and prices in June and you will be locked in at that point. It’s worth it to go through the draw because if you draw it on your own that will save you $8,000+ dollars right there.

As far as recommendations, Chris at Compass West seems to put people on good bulls. I always put in through him but have never drawn and haven’t been willing to nut up for a LO tag yet.

For Utah, there are plenty of options through Epic Hunts, Rolling Bones, etc from what I can see those Utah big bull rifle hunts are in the $28-$40k range and that’s before tip, etc. you are basically spending $50k to kill an elk. Thats fine if killing a giant elk is that important to you, but for that kind of money Id rather do a dall sheep hunt in Alaska or a horseback moose hunt for the giant Alaska-Yukon moose in the NWT or Alaska. Both would be significantly more of an adventure and robust experience across the board than an elk hunt on private land.
