Elk bullet in Grizzly country

Last time I archery hunted in Western WY I just carried a 9mm with buffalo bore +p solids. If not archery hunting it's usually just whatever bolt rifle i'm hunting with.

I have a g40 glock 10mm that was purchased specifically for hunting griz country but its bigger than ideal and I dont shoot it as well as a little 9mm so I havent caried it in years.

I’d probably pick the biggest one so I could throw it harder but the smaller one is probably the better choice so it doesn’t hurt as much when the griz shoves it up my ass.

With match bullets in those smaller cartridges you have nothing to worry about. mtmuley

I’d have no concerns at all with the right 9mm load. A .40 with Gold Dots will paper punch a big black bear skull, and the 9mm typically out-penetrates the .40 and .45.

There’s nothing wrong with the 10mm, and I carry one often. Sometimes I carry a .44 too. Sometimes I carry a 9mm. In areas with a lot of grizzlies. They’ll all do the job.

If I have a rifle, I don't take a pistol. If I don't have a rifle I take my pistol. Rarely do i double up.

Hiking up here in Grizz country, I have eschewed the popular 10mm and am toting a rifle.

Being from the Midwest and going to MT this season in grizz country, it never crossed my mind what bullet in my rifle. I do plan to carry bear spray. I was planning to shoot a 30-06 with 165 grain accubonds but I could switch to 180 barnes X. Something to consider I guess.

Your 165 grain accubond is just fine

Anything that will kill an elk will kill a grizzly just fine. I’d rather have the Accubonds than the Barnes.
