Elevation preference

Well, it's going to depend on where you're hunting, and what season.

As an example. Where I live and hunt the winter range is 8600ft. That means the elk around here never go below that altitude, and it's the winter range. To find an elk at the altitude in early hunting seasons you better have a lot of local knowledge. Most all the elk will be up near timberline for early seasons. Deep snow will start to drive them back down to winter range. That's usually at least Nov. Maybe later.
